The St Marys 8th Grade Girls Travel Team wrapped up their 2024-25 regular season with an exciting home win over Bethel, 33-29. St. Marys avenged a loss from earlier in the season to Bethel. The Bethel team was a formidable opponent, but the St Marys girls used teamwork, hustle and sharp shooting to seal the win.
Ariana Gmelin knocked down three 3 pointers to lead the team in scoring with 15. Sarah Taleb and Cynthia Parrett had 5 points each, while Kaitlyn Pashley, Lily Touchard, Lola Seligman and Christine Petkova chipped in 2 points each. Zoe Fehring, Claire Trotman, Shea Merrill and Avery Harper gave the team a great defensive and rebounding effort as well. This was a true team victory, with everyone contributing, said Head Coach Bob Hartnett.
In the last possession of the game, with Bethel swarming their basket, Lily Touchard secured a rebound in traffic to extinguish the hopes of the Bethel team as the clock struck 0:00.
The St Marys girls head to the FCBL Post Season Tournament with momentum on their side as they face Wilton in round one on Saturday @ 5pm at the Bedford MS in Westport CT.
(The game was the last home game for the 8th Grade team, and was a culmination of four seasons together at St Marys. The team, coaches and parents took a picture after the game to commemorate the milestone)
