St Marys Cup CHAMPS! THE WHITE TEAM!!!

Congrats to the WHITE TEAM for their 2024 St Mary's Championship Cup victory.  

The white team jumped out to an early 21-11 lead on team Blue.  But in a blink of the eye the game was tied at 24-24 thanks to the two 3 point corner bombs made by Gavin Morrice and three made free throws by Alden Hoemann.  White went into halftime clinging to a 26-24 lead. 

The third quarter was the beginning of the end for the Blue team. Steady play by the White team while sprinkling in a mix of their traditional man defense with a 1-3-1 trap, they kept the Blue team on their heels.  Tough, contested shots by Blue missed their mark, and with the turnover ratio in their favor, the White team held Blue to only 7 points in the quarter.  The score after three was 37-31.  

With the White team in early foul trouble entering the fourth quarter, Team Blue had their instructions from Coach Kelley to drive the ball, and they did, resulting in six trips to the charity stripe.  Converting on half their free throws, Blue scored 6 from the line in the fourth quarter.  But Blue was only able to score two more shots from the field in the 4th and could not match the fire power White was unleashing on them.  

With a late lead, Coach Sansone instructed the White team to slow down their offense and forced Blue to come out from the safety of the paint to guard far from the basket. White surgically passed the ball and were able to get easy buckets down the stretch.  White got every player to score the ball in the 4th.  The dynamic movement and passing resulted in a 20 point fourth quarter and made the lead insurmountable for Blue to catch up.

Both teams gave a great effort, shared the ball and had all players scoring points in the game.  White hoisted the Cup after the game and both teams celebrated the end of a terrific season with lunch and pickup hoops in the gym.
